Sabin" : 23rd Werner Brandt Workshop 23rd Werner Brandt Workshop Electronic Excitations of Solids Playa del Carmen, Q. Roo, Mexico June 4 - 6, 2003 Second Announcement Venue. The 23rd Werner Brandt Workshop on Electronic Excitations of Solids will take place in the quiet and picturesque region of Playa del Carmen on the Mexican Caribbean, June 4 - 6, 2003. Within the spirit of the Werner Brandt Workshop series, we wish the inspiring surroundings to be the frame for intense scientific exchange in formal and informal discussions on recent advances in theoretical and experimental aspects of penetration phenomena. Aim and Scope. The Workshop is intended to deal with current studies, with emphasis on unpublished and preliminary work, and on new ideas and interpretations. The topics of electronic excitations include, but are not limited to: Dynamic charge state effects in particle penetration and electronic excitations. Nonlinear and many-electron phenomena. Charge exchange and screening effects in collisions with insulators and metals. Program Schedule, Workshop Report and Registration. It has been the tradition in the Werner Brandt Workshop series to allow enough time for presentations and discussions on an informal basis with peer scientific level. The program will be planned as flexible as possible, running from 9:00 to 13:30 and an evening session from 17:00 to 20:00 during the three day duration of the Workshop. The time for each contribution is estimated as 20 minutes, which means the schedule must be limited to 60 talks at most. So we encourage people to apply early. Workshop Report. As usual, the workshop report will consist in bound copies of all contributions. Please prepare and bring your contribution in the form you would like it to appear. Registration. There will be a registration fee of $75 US to help cover organization expenses. This amount will be collected at the Workshop site (no credit cards, please). Please note that the deadline for registration and abstract submission has been extended until : May 9, 2003. You may register by submitting an abstract of one page (US letter size) indicating the title of work, author(s) name(s) and institution(s). Please underline the name of the presenting author. You may use any of the following word processors: Word, Acrobat PDF or Tex. Abstracts will be received in either of the following e-mail addresses: cruz@xanum.uam.mx, salcruz33@hotmail.com (Please indicate the name: WBW23 in the Subject Line of your mail) Workshop site and Accomodation. Playa del Carmen, Q. Roo, Mexico. Playa del Carmen (PlayaCar)[1] is small town located about 45 km south of Cancun International Airport. The white-sandy beaches of PlayaCar and turquoise-clear waters as well as the quiet and relaxed atmosphere make this place ideal for inspiring scientific exchange. Most services are available nearby (shops, pharmacies, restaurants, coffee stands,etc.). The Island of Cozumel [2] is 30 minutes from town by ferry which is a world famous place due to its coral reefs. Tulum [3]- the ancient Mayan white-stoned city with its spectacular view of the Caribbean- is about 65 km south of PlayaCar. If you have some spare time before or after the Workshop this could be a nice place to take a break [4]. Accomodation There are various hotels with excellent facilities at Playa del Carmen. We have made a careful selection and found most appropriate the Iberostar Tucan5, for an all inclusive rate of $115 USD per night/per person based on double occupancy and $140.00 USD per night for single occupancy (all taxes, surcharges and fees are included). This ALL INCLUSIVE rate includes: accomodation + buffet-style or a la carte meals, national wine and spirits, snacks, etc.). The Ibertostar Tucan Resort will be the headquarters hotel. Although we recommend you to sign in in the headquarters hotel so that everyone is at reach within the large installations, you may choose other hotels [1,2,8]. If you decide so, please take a look at the map [2] in the link Playa del Carmen and see which hotels are close to Iberostar. Here are two examples: Hotel Hacienda del Caribe [6] with rates of about $ 64 USD/ night + 12% tax (no meals included) ; Hotel Continental Plaza [7] with rates of about $90 USD/night tax included, no meals included. Unfortunately we cannot make hotel reservations. We strongly recommend you to make your own reservations via the web pages of the various hotels (it is quite safe and standard). Note that the Organizing Committee has not put aside hotel rooms for the workshop participants( due to the strong initial advance payment required). Please make your booking well in advance. If you have any trouble in making your reservations we shall be happy to assist you through the e-mail address given above. Transportation A shuttle service will be arranged from the Cancun International Airport to and from the Workshop place at specific times. This arrangement is contingent upon funds. There is, however, a regular by the hour shuttle bus service departing from the Airport to PlayaCar and costs $65 mexican pesos (about 7 USD). You shall be informed on these details.
