AlNO ultra thin films are used as barrier in tunnel junctions for MRAMs using the tunnelling magnetoresistance effect, and determining their composition is a real problem (not only academic). In the next two months, we shall deposit with magnetron sputtering the samples Si / AlxNyOz t / Au 50A, with t=3D10,100,1000 A. The purpose of the round robin is to determine the thickness and stoichiometry of the films. This is clearly a hard task for IBA for the thinnest samples. We invite all interested labs to take part in this exercise - all appropriate IBA techniques, such as heavy ion ERDA, conventional RBS, elastic backscattering, NRA, etc, as well as SIMS and other techniques are welcome. We envisage publication of the results in a regular article in NIMB.
