Monochromatic neutrons of the energy 14 and 3 MeV generated by low energy deuteron accelerator are incident onto sample. After their elastic collision with H, D, T atoms inside the sample matrix the forward scattered recoil nuclei (protons, deuterons or tritons) are detected by Si-detectors telescope connected with computer based electronic system. Since the energy of the charge recoil escaping the sample depends on the depth where scattering takes place and its energy loss in the first thin detector in telescope depends on the particle type, the program of data processing provides the transformation of energy spectrum for each recoil type into the concentration depth profile for corresponding H isotope. Analytical characteristics of the method: Sensitivity: 5.10E-4 atH/atM and less then 10E-4 atD,T/atM Maximum probing depth, xmax: Depends on both sample matrix and H isotope detected; at 14 MeV neutrons xmax = 1 mm for H in C and 300 mkm for D in Ti; at 3 MeV neutrons xmax = 70 mkm for H, and 30 mkm for D in C with the depth resolution ~ 5 % of xmax Main field of applications: - - Solid-state physics and hydrogen-material (H-M) systems study. - - Hydrogen isotopes behavior in plasma-facing components and fuel devices in thermonuclear fusion research. - - Hydrogen energy; membrane technology of hydrogen production and purification, hydrogen storage and separation in hydride phase, electrochemical rechargeable batteries with MH-electrode. - - Industry; protection of metals against hydrogen embrittlement, creation of new materials. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dr. Serguey MAKAROV Laboratory of Nuclear Methods of Analysis Institute for Rare Metals Moscow, RUSSIA - ------------------- Tel.(095) 135 4061 Fax (095) 247 2317 E-mail: smak@sci.lebedev.ru Mailing Address: Ivan Babushkin Street, 24, Apt.1 117292 Moscow, RUSSIA >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ------------------------------ End of I O N V98 #6 ******************* *-----------------------------------------------------------------------* | I O N - part of the IBIS, the Ion Beam Information System | *-----------------------------------------------------------------------* | Editors: | | E.
