The selected candidate will conduct experimental research in effects of high energy ions, electrons and ultraviolet light on surfaces. The effects include electron emission, luminescence, sputtering, and changes in optical properties. The interest is understanding fundamental interactions at the atomic and nanoscale level and applying the results to understand processes occurring in the solar system and interstellar space. The research is funded by NASA and NSF. The candidate must possess a Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, or related discipline. We are looking for a person with experience on some of these techniques: UHV systems, ion accelerators, surface analysis (Auger, XPS, ISS, SIMS), cryogenics, optical spectroscopy, FTIR, TOF electronics and computer interfacing to experiments. Interested persons should send a c.v., publication list, and letters of reference to: Professor Raul Baragiola Laboratory for Atomic and Surface Physics, University of Virginia, Engineering Physics, Thornton Hall, Charlottesville, VA 22901 by fax to 804-924-1353 or by e-mail to raul@virginia.edu For information about the Laboratory, visit to: http://bohr.ms.virginia.edu/ep/LASP.html Review of applications will begin on April 28 and continue until the position is filled. ============================================================== Prof. Raul A.
