You are hereby cordially invited to participate in the "8th International conference on Particle-induced X-ray emission and its analytical applications"! You will soon receive a first circular to invite you to submit papers and participate in the conference that will take place June 14-18 1998 here in Lund, Sweden. To avoid a delay for those of you who need to know details long in advance for money reasons this email is sent to ION and to each individual in the ion beam analysis community. The first circular is displayed on our conference web site (http://www.fysik.lu.se/nuclearphysics/pixe98/) and we urge you to visit it as soon as possible. Our judgement of the situation is that most potential participants now have access to electronic means of communcation and that we hence can make use these as much as possible for the benefit of our local organisers and of potential delegates. In a later stage registration and submission of abstracts will also be possible. Submitted titles and abstracts will be available also for others who would want to submit material and this would minimise risks for overlapping. The general recommendation is to soon pre-register using the web-site and this will automatically be added to the conference data base significantly facilitatating our task of administering the conference. You will then receive second circular with more details. For direct questions regarding details please phone, fax or even more conveniently send an email to pixe@pixe.lth.se ! The emphasis of the conference will be on poster presentations on technical developments and applications and rather few oral presentations on PIXE as such. Oral presentations will also be given on adjacent techniques with perspectives on PIXE and specialists4 views on how PIXE can even better contribute in each field of application. We are also investigating the interest from newcomers in the field (and others) to follow a series of tutorials the day preceding the first conference day (Saturday June 13). Please submit your interest in such a day as free text in the field of comments. Please inform colleagues about the content of this message (e.g. by forwarding) if you suspect they do not subscribe ION but may still be interested.
