Kind Regards Ian Vickridge V A C A N C Y Research Team Leader New Zealand Scientists at New Zealand's Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences Limited have provided nuclear science expertise in New Zealand and overseas for more than 30 years. The Institute is one of nine Crown Research Institutes established by the New Zealand government to provide quality scientific research and consultancy for the economic benefit of New Zealand. The Institute has a vacancy in its Gracefield, Lower Hutt laboratory for a research scientist to lead a small team with an established reputation in the development of new research skills in analytical methods based on its 3MV Van de Graaff accelerator, and the application of ion beam analysis (IBA) and nuclear microprobe methods such as PIXE/PIGE, Rutherford Back Scattering and Nuclear Reaction Analysis to problems in materials science, environmental studies, geology and biology. The team is motivated by its innovative research. Its leader will be expected to develop and manage research projects that are securely based on their contribution to the needs of other science providers and industry, and to contribute to the commercial activities of the Institute. The appointee is likely to have 2-5 years post-doctoral experience. A physics background with particle accelerator experience is required. Specialists in materials science with some IBA experience will be seriously considered. Outstanding ability in an IBA or microprobe laboratory is essential.
