*========================================================================* | I O N | *------------------------------------------------------------------------* | News and views within the Ion Beam Community | *========================================================================* | Authors bear full responsibility for their contributions | *========================================================================* I O N Wednesday, 23 April 1997 Vol. 97 : Num. 002 owner-ion-digest@sunserv.kfki.hu: ION - List Info ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: owner-ion-digest@sunserv.kfki.hu Date: Wed, 23 Apr 1997 10:41:26 +0200 (MET DST) Subject: owner-ion-digest@sunserv.kfki.hu: ION - List Info ION - L I S T I N F O =========================== IBIS, - Ion Beam Information System - is a set of electronic services primarily for those engaged or interested in Ion Beam Analysis. ION-LIST is part of IBIS. The main purpose of ION-LIST is to publish ION, an electronic discussion journal of the Ion Beam Community. Please distribute this INFO-file amongst your colleagues and save it for later information. 1. The List ------------ Subscription to ION-LIST is not restricted by any means and is, of course, free. Subscription is expected first of all from Ion Beam Analysis people, students interested in Ion Beam Analysis and from all people engaged or interested in Ion Beam Analysis or - in a wider sense - in related fields using energetic ions. Anybody having access to electronic mailing may subscribe to ION and submit her/his contributions: questions, comments, suggestions, announcements, opinions to be published in the next issue of ION. Mail attachments and coded mail body, are not supported. Should you wish to distribute binary files, the use of anonymous ftp upload facility and a text mail reminder is recommended. Please observe, that the list is non-moderated. The journal has no editors in the usual sense; everything will be published without further restrictions. Consequently, everybody bears full responsibi- lity for his/her own contributions concerning both content and style. The collection ('digest') and the distribution of the contributions is done automatically by the Majordomo list server. The journal (a digest of the last day's messages if any) will be forwarded by e-mail to all subscribers within one day time. NOTE (to users of the former INFOSERV IBIS services): The old issue of ION and the Personal_Data_Directory of IBIS containing addresses, phone and fax numbers, etc. submitted until 1 December, 1996 are available from the WWW home page. Since Majordomo does not support such a database, updating these data can exclusively be done from the WWW home page of IBIS at http://www.kfki.hu/~ionhp/ Concerning the List, this is a step backwards, but we hope that other services will compensate you for this. Should you have any questions, comments, or a procedure requiring human intervention, please contact the webmaster at the e-mail address: ionhp@sunserv.kfki.hu Please find below technical information on how to use ION-LIST. 2. ION-LIST protocol ---------------------- ********************************************************************** * * * PLEASE OBSERVE: * * --------------- * * All CONTRIBUTIONS to be published in ION * * should be sent to the address: * * * * ION@SUNSERV.KFKI.HU * * * * All COMMANDS for the list server (like SUBSCRIBE, INFO, etc.) * * should be sent to the address: * * * * ION-REQUEST@SUNSERV.KFKI.HU * * * ********************************************************************** 2.1. Contributions: ------------------- All e-mails sent from a subscribed e-mail address to the address ion@sunserv.kfki.hu will be handled as contribution, and shall be included in the next issue of the digest format ION within one day time. The subject field of the mail will identify the contribution in the content field of the digest. 2.2. Commands: -------------- All commands of the list below should be sent in a mail of appropriate format to ion-request@sunserv.kfki.hu from any e-mail address (except WHO, which is accepted from a sub- scribed e-mail address). Commands should be placed in the mail body. The subject field of mails to ion-request@sunserv.kfki.hu is not processed. It is recommended, however, that multiple command sequences end with an END command. Available commands of ION-LIST: GET - To get a file from ION-LIST by e-mail. See also: INDEX. HELP - To get the general help file of the Majordomo list server which handles several lists. (non-ION-specific!) INDEX - To get by e-mail a list of the available files at ION-LIST. It helps for example to get old issues of the bulletin, showing the file names of various documents. INFO - To get the present INFO file by e-mail. LISTS - To get the name of the available lists handled by Majordomo at sunserv.kfki.hu. SUBSCRIBE - Send this command in the body of an e-mail in order to sign-up to the distribution list of the ION. UNSUBSCRIBE - To cancel subscription to ION. WHICH - To find out which lists you are subscribed to with Majordomo at sunserv.kfki.hu. WHO - Returns by mail the complete list of subscribers (mail addresses) of the ION. ATTENTION! Everybody from the subscribers can get the full list of e-mail addresses of subscribers. END - Always use this command at the end of the command sequence of your mail. This is required especially when your mail contains a mail-footer text or signature at the end which may affect the automatic handling of the mail-requests. 2.3. Usage examples: -------------------- In order to sign-up to the list, send an e-mail to ion-request@sunserv.kfki.hu the body of your mail must contain: SUBSCRIBE on a separate line. (The subject field is not processed.) Beginning from the next issue of of the journal, you shall receive ION by e-mail to the address you subscribed to the ION-LIST from. In order to sign-off the list (i.e. you wish to discontinue receiving ION), send an e-mail to: ion-request@sunserv.kfki.hu the mail body must contain: UNSUBSCRIBE on a separate line. 2.4. Remarks: ------------- * The body of your mail sent to ion-request@sunserv.kfki.hu address may contain multiple commands, but they should be placed in different lines of the mail body text, and terminated by an END command on a separate line. * The system IS NOT case-sensitive for commands, but in the case of GET command the file name must fit exactly (including upper and lower case characters). * Even if one submits multiple commands, only one answer mail will be sent by the majordomo@sunserv.kfki.hu address, including the answers for all requests, except for GET commands, which will be answered separately. * Please DO NOT reply automatically from your mailer to any message you get from Majordomo. Such e-mails will never be handled by the list server but will be forwarded to the list-owner and cause extra load. * Instead of the address ion-request@sunserv.kfki.hu the direct address of the list server majordomo@sunserv.kfki.hu may be used, but then all commands sent in must include the name of the list you are addressing to (ION in this case). For example: INFO ION, WHO ION, or SUBSCRIBE ION, etc. A direct addressing of the ION list is recommended, as mentioned above. * WARNING! If a contribution is submitted, it will be published. If a contribution is submitted twice it will be published twice! There is no warranty that one of them will be withdrawn if you have already submitted both. Should you still wish to withdraw an unintentionally submitted contribution, please contact the list-owner ( owner-ion-digest@sunserv.kfki.hu ). We shall try to remove the indicated contribution before publication. ************************************************************************ IBIS - (short for Ion Beam Information System) is a project of the KFKI Research Institute for Particle and Nuclear Physics and KFKI Research Institute for Materials Science Budapest, Hungary. IBIS now includes the following services: ---------------------------------------- ION-LIST - A List and service primarily for distribution of ION ION - News and views - a discussion journal for the Ion Beam Community IBIS-FTP - an anonymous FTP site at ftp.kfki.hu /pub/local/ibis for downloading and an option to upload to the /incoming directory (erased in every 10 days). In this latter case, please use ZIP files, and write the name of the file in an E-mail to one of the editors. IBIS-WWW - integrating all the above and more at URL: http://www.kfki.hu/~ionhp/ We hope you will join our electronic services. Please distribute this information on IBIS amongst your colleagues. Suggestions, comments, and contributions are highly welcome. Last revised: 22 April, 1997.
