About the Camping

The KFKI^* Camping is located near Lake Balaton, and the Szántód Ferry. Its main aim is to supply the recreational needs of the workers of the KFKI Campus. We welcome guests when there are free places. The KFKI Sailing Club operating at the Camping organizes its sailboat training and touring camps annually, to which non-KFKI participants are also accepted. Members of the KFKI Fishing Association are assiduous visitors of the Camping from early spring till late autumn. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed in our Camping.

^* KFKI is the Hungarian acronym of the formal Central Research Institute for Physics, which had been located at Csillebérc, Budapest. After the reorganization of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences KFKI ceased to exist, and its parts became independent Institutes.

History of the Camping Site:

The place at Szántód belonging to the Central Research Institute for Physics was enclosed in 1965, then in 1966 construction of the Camping started using recycled construction materials...

In the last years of the 80's the Camping already had 22 cabins and 3 larger timber houses, and catered to the recreational needs of the more than 2000 employees of the Central Research Institute for Physics (KFKI), employees of Research Institute for Astronomy, and regularly welcomed employees of the Czechoslovakian Academy of Sciences. Young employees of the KFKI were invited to a spirited acquainting party every year organized by the Hungarian Communist Youth Association (KISZ)...

In 1997, during the break-up of the KFKI, when every outer properties were tried to realize, half of the KFKI Camping was subdivided, and sold. To save what they can, some of the most determined Camping users formed the KFKI Camping, Leisure and Sport Association, and contracted with the HAS to operate the Camping...
