This manuscript contains 'Della militia maritima' (On the maritime militia), a treatise on marine administration and naval techniques, written by Cristoforo Canal (1512-1562), a Venetian naval commander. Besides being an expert seaman, he was also a cultivated and studious man.
On folio 96 of the manuscript is shown Canal's ideal galley.
