Astronomicum caesareum

1540
Manuscript (Magl. 5. 41)
Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale, Florence

This manuscript, dedicated to Emperor Charles V, contains the 'Astronomicum caesareum' by Pietro Apiano (1495-1552), a talented German mathematician and astronomer. It has numerous drawings, paintings, diagrams and tables, many of which have movable parts for the study of planets. In this work the author proposes the substitution of instruments for the old astronomical tables.

The double page (folios 27v and 28r) contains drawings with movable parts.
