The Return in Amsterdam of the Second Expedition to the East Indies

This painting shows the triumphal homecoming on 19 July 1599 to Amsterdam of four heavily laden ships under the command of Captain Jan van Neck. It was the second time that Dutch ships returned from the East Indies archipelago, and the first time that trade with the Far East had generated large profits.
