THESMAR, André-Fernand

Cup with Poppies

1903
Plique-à-jour and gold, width 9 cm
Walters Art Museum, Baltimore

In about 1900, Thesmar began to work in "plique-à-jour," or openwork, enamel. Because of their extreme fragility, few of his works survive.

On the base of the present cup is an enamelled beetle.
