After completing and erecting the monumental bronze statues of grand dukes Ferdinando I and Cosimo II, which his father had begun for the Cappella dei Principi in San Lorenzo, Florence, Ferdinando had to seek patronage outside the court. Of the small number of commissions he fulfilled, the most important are: a life-size Crucifix and four infant angels in bronze for the palace chapel of Prince Carlo I Cybo Malaspina of Massa-Carrara (1647-49), of which only two Angels with Candelabra survive (Wallace Collection, London); an antependium relief of the Stoning of St Stephen (1656) and two infant angels in bronze (both Santo Stefano al Ponte Vecchio, Florence); the Kneeling Infant Angels (1650-55; J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles), executed for the Bartolommei family; and the bronze Fountain of Bacchus (1658-65; Palazzo Pretorio, Prato).
