RUISDAEL, Jacob Isaackszon van
(b. ca. 1628, Haarlem, d. 1682, Amsterdam)

Landscape with a Village in the Distance

1646
Oil on wood.76 x 109 cm
Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

This painting is one of the fifteen known landscapes painted by Jacob van Ruisdael in 1646 when he was about eighteen years old. In his youthful works a tendency to exaggerate dramatic effects can be observed.

Formerly the painting was attributed to one of Van Ruisdael's followers.
