Andrea della Robbia's last important works date from the first decade of the Cinquecento and were produced for the Pistoia Cathedral and for the church of Santa Maria della Quercia in Viterbo.
In the middle of the lunette in the portico of the Pistoia Cathedral, Andrea modelled the Madonna and Child crowned by two angels in flight. The composition is asymmetric, the Madonna is displaced slightly to the left.
