From c. 1544 Guglielmo was patronized by the Farnese pope Paul III, producing bronze and marble busts of him. The preferential relation between Della Porta, the Lombard sculptor-monk, and Paul III is confirmed by the striking bust in two colours (white marble and Numidian yellow) of Paul, completed about 1547 in Rome.
