The Annunciation is the moment in which the archangel Gabriel announces to the Virgin Mary that she is going to be the Mother of Jesus. In this scene Piero del Pollaiolo shows a very luxurious setting, from the precious marbles of interior decoration to the sumptuous clothes worn by the figures. The sharp alignment of the architectural elements strictly follows the rules of mathematical perspective and leads the eye of the viewer to a hilly landscape where the city of Florence is accurately represented.
