Pierre Patel (the Elder) was principally famous for his landscape panels, which were incorporated into the decoration of rooms as in the Cabinet de l'Amour at the Hôtel Lambert. His compositions contain a mixture of architecture and pure landscape, and show that he had some understanding of Claude Lorrain.
