The picture shows a detail of the baldachin in front of the main portal of the Cathedral in Ferrara. Niccolò's works seem to be inspired less by the Classical period than by his predecessor, his master, Wiligelmo, though they scarcely match his power of expression. Nonetheless, his figures have a special vividness.
