Due to the GTB monogram inscribed lower right, this painting was attributed for a long time to Gerard Terborch. More recent scholarship gave the painting to Eglon van der Neer. Although the work is clearly inspired by Terborch, it does not necessarily record a lost composition by him. In 1665 Eglon van der Neer painted the same woman as the one in the present painting. | |
