Anton Wilhelm Solnitz (c.1708-1752) was a German-Bohemian composer. He spent the majority of his working life in the Netherlands, studying at Leiden University and performing in the pleasure gardens of The Hague and other cities throughout the Netherlands. The rich Dutch Republic attracted musicians from various European countries.

The musical score featured in the present work is one of the two sets of six sonatas that Solnitz published.

The painting is signed and dated centre left: H. vand r/ Mij. f./ 1743.
