Ground Plan of the Lantern and Figure Sudies

1546-49
Black chalk, 397 x 232 mm
Teylers Museum, Haarlem

The verso of the sheet contains a study of ground plan of the lantern and figure studies. All figures are set in narrow, high rectangular niches, two of them are given greater emphasis by the high contrast of the modeling and detailed execution. All the figures can probably be interpreted as apostles, however, there are no convincing explanations of the purpose of the figures.
