1546-49
Black chalk, 397 x 232 mm
Teylers Museum, Haarlem

On this sheet Michelangelo drew a number of possibilities for the design of the dome of Saint Peter's. The dome was not completed until after Michelangelo's death and not entirely in accordance with his plans. The work on the dome was finished between 1588 and 1593 by Glaucoma Della Portal.

Beside the studies of the dome and its lantern, there are also figural studies on the sheet. The verso contains a study of ground plan of the lantern and figure studies.
