Tomb of Gugliemo di Castelbarco

c. 1320
Marble
Santa Anastasia, Verona

The tomb of Gugliemo di Castelbarco is on top of the arch which, outside Santa Anastasia, was the way into the Convento dei Domenicani.

Guglielmo da Castelbarco (d. 1320) was an Italian condottiero belonging to the Castelbarco family. In 1307 he started work on the church of Santa Anastasia in Verona, in the vicinity of which, as per tradition reserved only for powerful and wealthy people, he had his tomb ark built. After taking part in a battle in support of the Scaligeri, he died in Castel Lizzana, leaving the fiefdoms as an inheritance to his sons.
