This panel was part of a larger altarpiece containing stories from the life of St Catherine of Alexandria. It is attributed to an anonymous master called Master of the Hearst paliotto, who perhaps can be identified as Donato and Gregorio d'Arezzo.
The present panel depicts St Catherine of Alexandria, the wheel on which she was being tortured.
