This small column surrounded with reliefs is in the Museo di Arte Sacra in San Casciano Val di Pesa to the south of Florence. It belonged to a font and it contains scenes from the Birth of Christ. At the bottom is the Annunciation, and above it the Annunciation to the Shepherds, and further scenes from the Birth of Christ. The Annunciation to the Shepherds shows a human intimacy such as is rarely discovered in Romanesque sculpture.
