Maitani's principal architectural achievement was the façade of the cathedral at Orveto. The fact that he was also involved in producing sculpture there, apparently by his own hand, is attested by documents. Marble reliefs adorn the four buttresses of the façade up to the full height of the jamb of the central portal.
