The studiolo (study) in the Palazzo Ducale in Gubbio (now displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York) was executed in the workshop of Giuliano da Maiano under the supervision of Francesco di Giorgio Martin who probably designed it. The small room (485 x 518 x 384 cm in size) was intended for meditation and study. Its walls are carried out in a wood-inlay technique known as intarsia. The cabinets display objects reflecting Duke Federico da Montefeltro's wide-ranging artistic and scientific interests, and the depictions of books recall his extensive library.

A similar room was made for Federico da Montefeltro in the Palazzo Ducale in Urbino.
