LOMBARDO, Tullio
(b. ca. 1460, d. 1532, Venezia)

Effigy of Guidarello Guidarelli

1520-25
Marble
Galleria dell'Accademia, Ravenna

Tullio Lombardo was selected to carve two more monumental reliefs for the Cappella dell'Arca in the 1520s, but neither was executed. His only other major sculptural commission in this decade was for the funerary chapel of Guidarello Guidarelli in San Francesco, Ravenna, which probably dates to 1520-25. Only the effigy of the dead soldier in full armour and the architectural details of the chapel are extant.

Guidarello Guidarelli (c. 1455-1501) was an Italian condottiere in the service of Cesare Borgia.
