GIOVANNI DA MILANO
(active 1350-69, Milano, Firenze)

Christ Enthroned with Four Adoring Angels

c. 1365
Tempera on wood, 152 x 69 cm
Galleria Sabauda, Turin

This panel belongs to an altarpiece painted for an unknown location. It was probably the centre panel in the main tier of a polyptych (probably a triptych). Associated with this altarpiece are another main tier panel depicting Eleven Saints (Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan), three pinnacle panels (National Gallery, London), and two predella panels, one showing the Incredulity of St Thomas (Alana Collection, Newark, Delaware) and one showing the Resurrection (private collection).
