The painting, in which the head of the man and the hands of the figures are entirely overpainted, depicts Francesco Sassetti (1421-1490), general manager of the Medici bank, and (probably) his younger son Teodoro. Several portraits of Sassetti exist. However, the ruined condition of the present painting precludes comparison with the datable likenesses of Sassetti.
