The Madonna and Child with Saints (detail)

Each of the figures is framed by an arch or segment of an arch in the loggia behind; the Virgin, as expected, is given the most elaborate space. The monumental Virgin and Child are descendants of Masaccio's figures from his Pisa Altarpiece.
