The co-regency of the two Ernestine brothers Frederick (1463-1525) and John (1468-1532) led to a series of donations of altarpieces in which the two princes had themselves portrayed on the inside of the wings of a triptych. These two fragments consist of the lower halves of the dismembered inner sides of two altar wings.
