This painting is one of the three known examples of this subject produced by Lucas Cranach the Elder and his workshop. One other (c. 1528-30) is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and a third version of about 1537-40, attributed to Lacas Cranach the Younger, in the Gemäldegalerie, Dresden.
