The Hunters in the Snow (detail)

The principal motif of the painting is a group of hunters, seen from behind, bringing their catch to a village lying farther down. Their movement leads the eye over the wide winter landscape to the tiny figures sporting on the ice and the snowcapped mountains on the distant horizon.
