The directorate's main goal is to solve monitoring, measuring and controlling problems in experimental scientific research, e.g. in high-energy experimental physics, nuclear spectrometry, measurement automation, chemistry and biomedicine. The activities are twofold: solving measurement- and data-processing problems related to the experiments, and development of hardware and software devices to be used in laboratory automation.
