1873
Plaster
Museum, Rimaszombat

Izsó was commissioned for the Statue of Petőfi in 1871. At the beginning he executed several head studies, then he elaborated the figure of Petőfi swearing in his historic poem "Rise up, Hungarian!". First he depicted the poet with raised right hand, but later he experimented also with a representation showing the poet with right hand on the chest. Due to the early death of the artist the statue was completed by Adolf Huszár. The final version shows the poet with raised right hand.
