Lecture 1: Introduction and Energy Balance Models
Climate as a complex dynamical system. Type of models: from 
Energy Balance Models (EBM), to Models of Intermediate Complexity 
(MIC) to Global Climate Models (GCM). Energy Balance Models: 
zero-dimensional, one-dimensional. Ice-albedo feedback.Stochastic 
resonance. Parameterization of meridional transport.

Lecture 2: Climate in the air column
Soil-vegetation-atmosphere interactions. Summer droughts at 
continental midlatitudes. The dynamics of Planet Dune. 
Radiative-convective models.

Lecture 3: Global climate models
Wind-driven circulation and thermohaline circulation in the ocean. 
Structure of the general circulation of the atmosphere. The Lorenz 
1984 model for midlatitude dynamics. Global climate models and 
climate scenarios: PLASIM and EC-Earth.

Lecture 4: Regional climate dynamics
Hotspots of climate variability: Arctic, HKKH, Mediterranean. The 
climate of the Himalaya-Karakoram area: Monsoons and Western 
Weather Patterns. Regional models and downscaling.
