The Decretum Gratiani, also known as the Concordantia discordantium canonum, is a collection of Canon law compiled and written in the 12th century as a legal textbook by the jurist known as Gratian. The miniature on folio 1 of the manuscript preserved in the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris depicts Christ giving the key to the pope and the sword to the emperor.
