(b. 1431/32, Firenze, d. 1498, Roma)

Monument of Sixtus IV

1484-93
Bronze, slightly over life-size
Grotte Vaticane, Rome

One of the better-known works of Antonio Pollaiuolo is the bronze tomb of Pope Sixtus IV in the San Pietro in Vatican. He exploited the techniques developed by Donatello both in his large-scale bronze monuments in Rome (to Sixtus IV and Innocent VIII) and his small-scale bronze statuettes.
