From the time of the Burial of the Count of Orgaz, El Greco began to create his own images of the different Saints such as St Louis, or St Francis. El Greco painted pairs of saints from the 1590s: Sts Peter and Paul, as well as Sts Andrew and Francis are good examples. The High Altar in the parish church of Talavera la Vieja in Toledo was executed also in this period.
