The Feast of Herod

1387
Tempera on panel, 34 x 67 cm
Musée du Louvre, Paris

This predella panel is from an altarpiece commissioned for the Nobili Chapel dedicated to Sts James and John the Baptist Beheaded, founded in 1387 in the cloister next to the chapter house of Santa Maria degli Angeli, Florence. The panel was painted by Agnolo Gaddi with the collaboration of Lorenzo Monaco.

The composition derives from Giotto's Feast of Herod in the Peruzzi Chapel in Santa Croce.
